Will Menace finish season undefeated?

Kino Ryosuke and the Heartland Division champs (12-0-1) open a July 13-14 doubleheader with the PDL regular-season title at their fingertips.

WEST DES MOINES, Iowa – Thursday, July 12, 2018 – The Premier Development League’s regular-season championship is within the Des Moines Menace’s reach.
 
A win tomorrow night would clinch the title for the 12-0-1 Menace.
 
This weekend’s doubleheader at Valley Stadium starts with a Heartland Division showdown with the St. Louis Lions (6-5-2); it continues with a Saturday exhibition against Aurora Borealis SC, a Chicagoland team from the United Premier Soccer League.
 
It's  the Menace’s fifth straight weekend at home, with at least one more to follow. Earlier this week, the PDL announced that the Menace will host the Central Conference’s championship weekend, July 20-21.
 
In the Menace’s celebrated 25-year history, the franchise has secured a pair of PDL regular-season championships. This year’s team hopes to retrace the footsteps of the 2002 (15-0-3) and 2014 (12-1-1) Menace. Des Moines’ 2005 postseason title stamped the logo on the team’s logo.

ABOUT THE MENACE
  • 12-0-1 – just ahead of Reading United AC (11-0-2), South Georgia Tormenta FC (10-0-2) and FC Golden State Force (11-1-1) for the best record in the 72-team PDL.
  • 2018 regular-season champs of the PDL’s Heartland Division and Central Conference (which also includes the Great Lakes Division).
  • Has outscored foes 34-5 – 12-0 before halftime and 22-5 after halftime.
  • Leads the league in goal-differential (+29); in a tie for second place are New York Red Bulls U23 and FC Golden State Force (both at +27).
  • Has not trailed a PDL opponent this season; not counting scoreless beginnings, has been tied for 18 total minutes in league play.
  • Kino Ryosuke leads the PDL Golden Boot Race with 15 goals.
  • First-year head coach Alen Marcina is assisted by Dario Pot and goalkeeping coach Devala Gorrick.
  • Entered the franchise’s 25th season with an all-time record of 267-154-37 (237-126-37 regular season; 16-16 PDL playoffs; 14-12 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup).

ABOUT THE LIONS
  • 6-5-2, in third place in the Heartland Division (right behind 7-5-2 Chicago).

  • Jordan Watson (five goals) and Troy Reeves (four goals) lead the offense.

  • This is the teams’ first meeting since the Menace defeated the host Lions on May 26 (4-1) and June 2 (2-0).
