To the Menace Interns of 2012:

As the summer season of 2011 comes to a close, we would like to take the opportunity to reflect on these past three months and provide you with some words of wisdom. It is true: the summer really does fly by! Take advantage of every day that you work on Menace row. Seemingly so, it feels just like yesterday we were both beginning a journey that has impacted our careers and lives.

In order to get the most out of the internship, you must work your hardest. Our philosophy has always been to work hard and work ahead. You will never have two days that are the same. Anytime you can get a project or task done before a deadline, do it. With a good work ethic and the willingness to push yourself, (even when you are sweating and it’s 100 degrees outside) you can achieve anything at the Menace.

The Menace is a special sports organization that sits in the middle of the Kum & Go headquarters, making it one of the few professional sports offices in the PDL. So for starters, make sure you have more than one suit. Secondly, embrace the corporate culture for which the Menace has been founded upon. To name a few key ideas: integrity, caring, and most importantly teamwork. Willingness to help and working together will make your job easier and a lot more fun!

Don’t forget to ask questions! The staff is always more than willing to answer questions and pitch in when you are in need. One question in particular, that could arguably change your life, is the question why. Knowing why the Menace, or any organization, does what it does helps put everything into perspective and gives you direction in your work. Also, don’t forget to double, triple and even quadruple check everything!

Finally, be creative! Player spotlights were new this year and we took them to an extreme! Enjoy having the independence and the ability to expand your professional portfolio while making the Menace a better sports organization.

Des Moines Menace soccer holds a special place in both of our hearts, and we hope that you will enjoy being a part of the Menace family as much as we have.

Good luck & go Menace!
