WEST DES MOINES, Iowa – Saturday, June 25, 2011 – Deshorn Brown and Finn Jor spearheaded the Des Moines Menace’s 5-0 win over the Winnipeg Lions tonight at Valley Stadium.

Brown scored three goals, and Jor tallied a goal and assisted two others. Otis Williams also scored in the exhibition.

The Lions held the Menace (7-3-0 in the Premier Development League) scoreless in the first 24 minutes. Brown’s first two goals came in the 25th and 40th minutes. He capped the scoring in the 87th minute.

A halftime substitution, Jor ignited the Menace’s strong finish. He assisted Williams’ upper-90 strike in the 56th minute and scored a header in the 71st minute, driving home a corner kick from Ben Taylor. Jor set up Brown’s final goal.

“I thought we did better in the second half,” Jor said. “We had a lot of chances and were able to capitalize on our fresh legs.”

Winnipeg hung with the Menace for most of the match, despite suiting up just 14 players. This was the teams’ second meeting, following a 5-2 Des Moines win here two years ago.

The match started a stretch of five straight home dates against Canadian teams. Laurie Calloway’s team hosts WSA Winnipeg (July 1-2) and Thunder Bay (8-9) the next two weekends.

“This game helped us get our confidence back up,” said Jor. “It’s good we have a week to prepare.”

MR. B MAN of the MATCH goes to: Deshorn Brown. The speedy Jamaican leads the team with six goals in as many regular-season matches; he has matched his goals total with a pair of exhibition hat tricks.

UP NEXT: Des Moines resumes league play with back-to-back doubleheader weekends, July 1-2 against WSA Winnipeg and July 8-9 against Thunder Bay. The team celebrates Independence Day on Friday, July 1. The night, presented by Ball Park Franks, starts with a free pre-game picnic (from 5 o’clock until 6:30) and concludes with post-game fireworks. All home matches start at 7:30 p.m. at Valley Stadium.
