WEST DES MOINES, Iowa  – Saturday, June 4, 2011 – The Des Moines Menace went international in the team’s final preparations before crossing the Canada border for four Premier Development League matches next week.

The Menace players came on in waves, as did the goals, in tonight’s 14-0 win over Des Moines International. The exhibition, played in front of 3,754 fans at Valley Stadium, showcased players from more than 20 different countries.

Des Moines head coach Laurie Calloway put 38 players into the match in his last chance to evaluate the team before its league action in Winnipeg (June 7-8) and Thunder Bay (June 10-11).

“The way we utilized it, I feel (the match) was a good experience,” Calloway said. “We gave the fans some goals tonight. It’s a confidence booster for our guys, and a good training exercise."

Deshorn Brown, who has scored six goals in five PDL matches, dazzled fans tonight with a hat-trick performance. The speedy Jamaican’s three goals came in a span of nine minutes and put the Menace up 6-0 in the 31st minute. Brazilian Luis Piffer followed with back-to-back goals that stretched the lead to eight.

Newcomer Otis Williams, from England, was the team’s other multi-goal scorer.

Calloway played his starters in the first third of the match, and brought in wholesale lineup changes in the 30th and 60th minutes. Members of the Menace Academy’s U19 team finished the exhibition, getting ready for tomorrow’s Iowa Soccer Association State Cup final.

The Menace’s opponent, also known as Ecuador Des Moines, is a team in the Des Moines International League. Its roster includes local players originally from Colombia, Ecuador, El Salvador, Honduras, Mexico, Sudan and Zambia.

MR. B MAN of the MATCH goes to: Deshorn Brown, the team’s leading scorer, who found the back of the net in the 22nd, 24th and 31st minutes.
