The Des Moines Menace will continue to play its home soccer matches at Valley Stadium for at least two more years.

The organization renewed its contract with the West Des Moines Community School District last night. Menace general manager Todd Meiners and West Des Moines school-board president Terry Tobin signed the agreement at the district’s bi-weekly school board meeting at the Learning Resource Center.

“We’re happy to return to Valley Stadium for another two years. We believe it’s the best place for us today,” Meiners said. “The stadium has all the assets of a great stadium, meeting the needs of our fans and the players, as well as the minimum league standards. We’ve had a good working relationship with the West Des Moines school district and the community and looking forward to continuing the partnership.”

The team has called Valley Stadium home the last two seasons. In 2008, the Menace made the move from Waukee Stadium, the team’s home from 2005-07. From 1995-2004, Des Moines played at Hoover High School’s McGrange Stadium, after playing its inaugural 1994 campaign at Dowling High School.

The news caps off a memorable week for the Menace.

On Wednesday, team owner Kyle Krause and Meiners announced in a press conference that Laurie Calloway is back as the PDL team’s head coach and the Menace Academy’s Director of Coaching – roles the veteran coach served in 2001-02.

Two days later, the team was named the 2009 Organization of the Year for the 68-team PDL. The surprise announcement came at the United Soccer Leagues’ Hall of Fame and Awards Dinner in Tampa, Fla. The annual honor is based on a ranking system whose criteria include the marketing, management, coaching, operations, community involvement and attendance of the organizations, as well as the teams’ on-field performance.

With Calloway back at the helm, the Menace looks to build on the organization’s rescent success. The reigning Heartland Division regular-season and postseason champs are undefeated in 21 of their last 22 regular-season matches.

Des Moines finished the 2009 season 11-1-4, advanced to the league’s Elite Eight and averaged a league-best 3,719 fans per home contest.
