The Des Moines Menace will be facing the Real Colorado Foxes Saturday night, with the chance to host the Premier Development League’s quarterfinal and semifinal playoff matches at stake.

WEST DES MOINES, Iowa – July 24, 2009 – The Des Moines Menace will be facing the Real Colorado Foxes tomorrow night, with the chance to host the Premier Development League’s quarterfinal and semifinal playoff matches at stake.

The expansion team from Denver out-foxed the defending PDL champion Thunder Bay Chill, 1-0, tonight at Valley Stadium to advance to tomorrow’s Heartland Division playoff championship.

The United Soccer Leagues announced today that if the Menace wins tomorrow night, the team will be hosting next weekend’s PDL playoffs. With a win against Real Colorado, the Menace welcomes the divisional-playoff winners from the Great Lakes, Mid-Atlantic and Northeast divisions.

Byron Cephers gave Real Colorado the only goal it needed to eliminate Thunder Bay tonight. Sean Sandoval assisted Cephers in the 49th minute, and the Foxes held on against the defending champs’ late onslaught.

The Chill outshot the Foxes, 14-5, including an 8-2 edge in the second 45 minutes.

Real Colorado (9-5-3 overall) gets the final say in a tightly contested season series that these teams split 1-1-2 during the regular season.

The Foxes freeze the Chill’s seven-game unbeaten streak. Thunder Bay ends its season with an 8-4-5 overall mark. The Canadian team handed the Menace (11-1-4) its only loss of the season, 1-0 on July 4.

Real Colorado will be facing a less familiar foe tomorrow night. The Foxes and the Menace met just once during the regular season – a 1-0 Des Moines win on May 16.

COMING UP: Saturday night’s match kicks off at 7:30 at Valley Stadium, the site of these teams’ only 2009 encounter.

Des Moines, the division’s regular-season champion, is playing for the opportunity to be one of two teams to host the PDL quarterfinals and semifinals. With a win over the Foxes, the Menace will host a double-header next Friday (July 31), with a 5:30 match followed by the home team playing in the 7:30 night cap. The winners would battle the following night at 7:30, fighting for a spot in the PDL’s championship game, on Aug. 8.
