WEST DES MOINES, Iowa  –  June 17, 2009 –The Des Moines Menace brings home its 12-match unbeaten streak, a week after earning four road points against the defending Premier Development League champion Thunder Bay Chill. The Menace – one of only seven undefeated teams left in the 68-team PDL – welcomes the Kansas City Brass for a Saturday-night match at Valley Stadium.

Des Moines (4-0-4) and Kansas City (2-6-2) will kick off at 7:30. This match opens the second half of the season for the Menace. It also marks the start of five-straight Saturdays that the team will be at home to close the regular season.

The Menace snapped its streak of four-straight draws with a win over Thunder Bay last Saturday, after tying its arch-rival the previous night. Saturday’s 3-1 victory was the team’s first since beating current division leader Real Colorado, on May 16.

Casey Mann’s team has moved into second place in the Heartland Division, just three points behind the Foxes (6-3-1). Depending on Real Colorado’s series at Thunder Bay this weekend, the Menace could have a share of the divisional lead with a win against Kansas City.

Des Moines has not lost a match since July 4, 2008. After a 3-0 Independence Day defeat to Thunder Bay, the Menace finished the 2008 season with a four-match undefeated streak.

RECAPPING LAST WEEKEND: The Menace repeated last season’s success against the Chill at Chapples Park in Thunder Bay, Ontario. A year ago, the team also tied the opener (0-0) and won the second match, 3-1.

If not for a late goal on Friday night, the Menace would have come home from Canada with two wins this time around. Des Moines held a 1-0 lead going into stoppage time, when the Chill was able to tie the game and force a draw. Samuel Asante scored his first goal for the Menace, set by a cross from Armin Mujdzic in the 78th minute.

Mujdzic was a key factor in Saturday’s 3-1 win, scoring a pair of goals. Asante assisted the Mujdzic in the 60th minute to give the Menace a 2-1 lead. The veteran’s other score came off a penalty kick in the 80th minute.

Newcomer Garrett Webb from Drake was assisted by Yuki Kariya in the 5th minute to give the Menace an early 1-0 advantage.

SCOUTING KANSAS CITY: The Menace holds a home record of 7-1 against Kansas City since 2002. Des Moines’ only loss during this span was a 2-1 match on July 3, 2004.

This is the season’s second meeting between the Heartland Division foes, after the first match ended in a 1-1 tie on June 4 at William Jewell College in Liberty, Mo.

The Brass was unable to pull out a victory against Des Moines last year, with the Menace winning each match by a single goal. Kansas City finished fifth in the Heartland Division last year with a record of 6-9-1.

The Brass is back in fifth place, with its only two wins coming against last-place Springfield. Matthew Klaus and Matt Kuhn lead the team in scoring with eight points each. Eddie Edward, who played briefly for Des Moines last season, has two assists and two goals – including a late score on June 4 to tie it up against his former team.

Jefferson Roblee is 93-64-14 as Kansas City’s head coach.
