Armin Mujdzic was selected as PDL player of the week after recording an assist and two goals in two matches against Thunder Bay.

WEST DES MOINES, Iowa—June 18, 2009—Armin Mujdzic, a veteran of the Des Moines Menace and a recent addition to this year’s roster, has been named the Premier Development League’s Player of the Week.

Seeing his first PDL action since 2007, Mujdzic earned the honor after his comeback weekend on the road against the Thunder Bay Chill.

Mujdzic scored the game-winning goal six minutes after entering Saturday’s match against the defending PDL champs. To top off the weekend, Mujdzic placed a penalty kick in the back of the net in the 80th minute, cementing the Menace’s 3-1 win.

His Saturday heroics came a day after he assisted Samuel Asante in the 73rd minute of a 1-1 draw against the Chill.

“Armin brings us a veteran presence that has had an immediate impact on our young guys,” said Menace head coach Casey Mann. “He understands the game and the level of competitiveness that it takes to be good in this league.”

A graduate of Urbandale High School and former member of the Grand View College soccer team, Mujdzic played for the Menace from 2002 to 2007. Mann called on Mujdzic to bring his experience to the team before its June 6 exhibition against the Winnipeg Lions.

“We needed a bit of a spark in terms of our attack and he has been that guy for these first games he has been involved in,” said Mann. “We hope that as his fitness develops that spark will continue to grow.”

The last Des Moines player to win the league’s top weekly honor was Dan Williams. The goalkeeper earned the honor after his performances in a tie and a win at Thunder Bay last June.
