Cody Reinberg, Nicki Paterson and Ben Haugland will be among the 90 players trying to catch the attention of pro clubs. The three were invited based on their performance with the Menace in 2008 and the recommendations of coaches.

WEST DES MOINES, Iowa – Dec. 12, 2008 – Des Moines Menace head coach Casey Mann and three of his former players will be taking part in the United Soccer Leagues’ Men’s Player Schowcase, which runs Sunday through Tuesday (Dec. 14-16). The event, now in its third year, is hosted by the Charleston (S.C.) Battery at Blackbaud Stadium.

Mann, who has been invited to the showcase each year, will be coaching one of the combine teams and helping with extra training sessions and other functions. The Showcase provides top professional coaches from USL-1, USL-2 and Major League Soccer (MLS) teams an opportunity to scout potential professional players from the amateur ranks. For Mann and other Premier Development League (PDL) coaches, this is an opportunity to build connections that will hopefully give their players the chance to play professionally.

Reinberg is a May 2008 graduate of Division-II Drury (Springfield, Mo.). Paterson and Haugland completed their college careers with UNLV last month. Lamar Neagle, a classmate and teammate of Paterson and Haugland, was invited to the Showcase but will not attend, thanks to another opportunity. A member of the Menace each of the last two seasons, Neagle is in California, trying out with the San Jose Earthquakes – a 2008 MLS expansion team.
