Thomas Ostrander, a member of the 2009 Menace PDL team, was the hero Sept. 28 on "Menace Night," scoring in the 90th minute. His goal gave Drake a 3-2 win over Western Illinois on a night when red-clad members of the Menace Academy filled the Cownie Stadium stands.

DES MOINES, Iowa – Sept. 29, 2010 – In the final minute of regulation, a pair of former Menace Premier Development League players connected for the winning strike to give Drake a 3-2 triumph over Western Illinois last night at Cownie Stadium. In front of legions of red-clad members of the Menace family, the Bulldogs (4-5) prevailed when Michael Noonan (2008 Menace) set up a charging Thomas Ostrander (2009) for the game winner in the 90th minute on “Menace Night.”

Husref Jupic, a graduate of the Menace Academy and Hoover High School, helped the Fighting Leathernecks (2-5-2) claw back after trailing 2-0. Jupic, a member of the Menace’s 2010 PDL side, assisted Adam Rappin’s game-tying score in the 75th minute.

In all, eight former Menace PDL players saw action in this rematch from the first round of the 2009 NCAA Tournament – a 2-1 Drake win last November, when then-freshman Jupic scored WIU’s lone goal in his first homecoming.

Drake goalkeeper Jordan Kadlec (2008-09 Menace) played all 90 minutes and made four saves in the win. Head coach Sean Holmes’ starting lineup included five players with Menace PDL ties: Kadlec, Noonan, Ostrander, Michael Thaden (2008-10) and Nick Foster (2009). Hunter Kennedy, a member of the 2009-10 Menace, came off the bench. Darryl Odom, who played for the Menace in 2009, started for Dr. Eric Johnson’s Leathernecks.
