Morris named to PDL Team of the Week

Sam Morris has earned a spot on the Premier Development League's Team of the Week. The defender scored a goal and helped shut out Kansas City in a 6-0 home win on Saturday.

WEST DES MOINES, Iowa – July 22, 2010 – Des Moines Menace defender Sam Morris has earned a spot on the Premier Development League’s Team of the Week, announced yesterday by the United Soccer Leagues.

 

Morris, a native of Blackburn, England, tallied his first goal of the season and helped the Menace shut out Kansas City in Saturday’s 6-0 victory at Valley Stadium.

 

He scored on a left-footed blast that made it 4-0. The goal came in the 28th minute and was assisted by Lebogang Moloto – the only other Menace player to hear PDL Team of the Week honors this season (May 26).

 

Morris led Fort Lewis (Colo.) to the NCAA Division-II national championship last fall. He has made 10 appearances and played 792 minutes for the Menace, which closes the season on Saturday.

 

LAST GAME: The Menace (6-3-6) hosts the rival St. Louis Lions (5-7-3) at Valley Stadium. Saturday’s game time is 7:30 p.m.It’s Fan Appreciation Night, presented by Frito Lay, and all fans are encouraged to help the Menace “Paint the Stadium Red.” Anyone wearing a red shirt gets $5 admission.
