With its best offensive output of the season, the Menace stormed to a 6-0 win over the Kansas City Brass on Saturday at Valley Stadium. The Menace closes the season on Saturday, July 24, hosting St. Louis.

WEST DES MOINES, Iowa – July 17, 2010 – With its best offensive output of the season, the Des Moines Menace stormed to a 6-0 win over the Kansas City Brass tonight at Valley Stadium.

Newcomer Stephen Baker scored two goals, and Lebogang Moloto added a goal and two assists in the Menace’s most-lopsided Premier Development League win since blanking Springfield 7-0 in May 2008.

“It’s definitely big for us,” said the 18-year-old Baker (pictured). “A good confidence-booster for the whole team and for me. We have one game left, one more week to train hard. We want to come out next week and have another result like this.”

As Laurie Calloway’s side did a week ago in a 7-2 exhibition win over the Minnesota Twinstars, the Menace once again took a 4-0 halftime lead. This time around, Husref Jupic, Baker, Logan McDaniel and Sam Morris notched first-half goals.

Baker and Moloto completed the scoring, helping the Menace double its season-high of three goals in a match.

“It’s a great feeling to score like this,” Moloto said. “We’re obviously not in the playoffs, so we just have to finish the season on the high note.”

Des Moines (6-3-6) wraps up the season next Saturday, hosting St. Louis. Though the Menace found out this week that it will not get one of the Heartland Division’s two PDL playoff spots, the team is still playing for a third-place finish.

After sweeping Kansas City on the season (3-0-0), the Menace is undefeated in its last 10 against the Brass (1-11-3). Des Moines came back to win the first two matches, played 10 days apart in May.

Baker’s multi-goal performance was the second for the Menace this season. Kenan Malicevic scored twice in a 3-0 win over Springfield on June 26.

This was the Menace’s third shutout of the season, and the second clean sheet for Jason Williams in eight appearances in goal.

McDaniel tied Clark Bradford for the team lead when he scored his fifth goal of the season. He scored two minutes after assisting Baker’s first goal, in the 15th minute.

Bradford leads the team with 13 points, followed by McDaniel’s 12 points and Moloto’s 10.

ONE MORE GAME: The season finale against St. Louis on July 24 is Fan Appreciation Night, presented by Frito Lay. Fans are encouraged to help us “Paint the Stadium Red.” All fans wearing a red shirt will receive admission for $5.
