Everyone is invited to watch the World Cup with the Menace. Players, coaches and staff will be at watch parties for Saturday's anticipated match between the United States and England -- the Cup opener for each team.
The US-England match starts at 1:30 p.m. central on Saturday. ABC's pre-game television coverage starts at 12:30 and fans are encouraged to come early.
You can join the Menace on Saturday at any of these three sponsor restaurants:
Chicken Coop, 1960 Grand Ave. in West Des Moines
Johnny's Hall of Fam, 302 Court Ave in downtown Des Moines
Legends Bar and Grill, 640 S. 50th St. in West Des Moines
Red Army World Cup Watch Party
Soccer fans are also invited to join members of the Red Army (Menace supporters club) and The American Outlaws: Des Moines, at Victor's Sport Club. Victor's is at the corner of 75th St. and Douglas Ave. in Urbandale. Specials at Victor's include $5 pitchers and 60-cent wings. The Urbandale sports bar will open early for all future U.S. games, as well.
The U.S. plays two more matches in pool play: June 18 against Slovenia and June 23 against Algeria, both starting at 9 a.m. central.
The top two teams from each of the World Cup's eight pools advance to the round of 16, which starts June 26. The 2010 champion is determined in a July 11 final.
