Menace Make First Championship Appearance Since 2005, Host North Carolina Fusion

DES MOINES, IOWA (July 29, 2021) The Des Moines Menace have secured their spot in the USL League Two National Final for the first time since 2005, when they defeated the El Paso Patriots. Set to take on the North Carolina Fusion U23, the Menace will host their first home championship match on Saturday, July 31, at Valley Stadium in West Des Moines.

“We’re excited not only to be playing in the final but to also serve as the host city,” said Menace head coach Mark McKeever. “This is a great opportunity to introduce soccer fans to our team and our city and to show support for our players and all the hard work they’ve put into the season.”

The Menace are the No. 1 seed going into Saturday’s match after being crowned regular season champions with an 11-1-0 record, outscoring opponents 42-8 over the course of 16 matches this season.

“We really represent what soccer can bring to a community,” said Menace co-general manager Charlie Bales. “We’ve got guys like me who grew up playing here in Iowa, but we also have players from 12 different countries who have come together to create this amazing outcome for our team, our city and our state. Now we’re just one win away from giving our fans another championship.”

Representing Iowa’s highest level of soccer, the Menace have not lost a home match since July 14, 2017. Once part of the Premier Development League, the Menace are now part of the USL League Twofollowing a rebrand of the league. Since 1994, the Menace’s list of alumni in the professional ranks includes more than 175 former players who have signed professional contracts, including more than 30 who played for Major League Soccer teams.

The Menace will kick off against North Carolina Fusion U23 at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, July 31, at Valley Stadium in West Des Moines. General admission tickets are available here -  bit.ly/3eVaDl2
