DES MOINES, Iowa (Mar. 21, 2023) — The Des Moines Menace will begin their run in the 2023 Lamar Hunt US Open Cup on Wednesday, March 22 against Beaman United FC.

The Menace will travel to Tennessee to take on the 2022 UPSL Runner-ups at Dean A. Hayes Track & Soccer Stadium in Murfreesboro, TN.  A win will give the Menace a chance to upset a professional team in the next round. The winner will host Chattanooga FC, a Division 3 professional side from the National Independent Soccer Association (NISA) in the Second Round.

Kickoff is scheduled for 7PM CDT. Fans unable to make the 691 mile away trip can watch a video livestream here.

This will mark the 15th time in club history that the Menace will take part in the US Open Cup, one of the oldest cup competitions in the world.

Modeled after England's FA Cup, the US Open Cup is a single-elimination tournament that is one of the oldest cup competitions in all of world soccer and has been the national championship for the United States since it launched in 1913. The tournament is open to professional and amateur teams from Major League Soccer to Sunday beer league teams and everything in between.

The 108th edition of the US Open Cup will feature 100 teams, 10 of them from USL League Two (USL-2).

Qualification is based on the Des Moines' regular season USL2 record from last season (10-0-2) as the club finished within the Top 10 of remaining eligible teams.

The Menace are the most successful amateur team in this year's field with 11 Open Cup wins, six of those coming over professional sides.
