Kansas City, KS – Traveling across state lines and packing a five-match unbeaten streak, the Des Moines Menace (8-1-0) concluded its regular season series with the Santafé Wanderers (2-6-0) on a sweltering Saturday night.
All gas and no brakes from the start, the Menace left the Wanderers in the dust off a goal kick from keeper Enzo Carvalho (Florianopolis, Brazil) in the 4th minute. On the second touch, Dominick Bachstein (F | Malvern, PA) charged into the box, evading a pair of defenders in his path. Cracking a shot near post, the ball ricocheted off Santafé’s keeper creating a chaotic sequence, with Bachstein eventually knocking the rebound in for his eighth goal on the season.
Stingy defense by the Menace’s backline coupled with outstanding stops by Carvalho, kept the match 1-0 until the 74th minute. Jumping into action off the bench, Eloge Iradukunda (F | Maputo, Mozambique) contained the handle on the Wanderers goal line. Slipping past defenders while catching Santafé in a gaze, Iradukunda guided a pristine pass to captain Luke Husakiwsky (M | Davidson, NC) who buried the ball in the center of the net to make the score 2-0. In extra time, Iradukunda added more to the scoresheet. Quickly countering Santafé, Ty Duax (F | Ankeny, IA) hit Iradukunda in stride as he sprinted inside the box to ultimately tally his first goal of the season and cement a 3-0 result.
